Our Farm Story

On 19 May 1973, Zbigniew (George) and Cathe Manowski moved from their 40 acre farmlette in Mylor in the Adelaide Hills, to our 270 acre farm at Mount Jagged on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Krystyna McCaul (nee Manowski) remembers it was the most glorious, beautifully warm, blue sky-sunny day. Their first milking was a handful of Jersey cows, which were brought with the property. Krystyna remembers ‘Buttercup 6’ calved in the pouring rain a few days later. Krystyna boasts that the nucleus of our original Jersey Herd was purchased within the first six months. Many of the Jersey cows who now reside in the herd now, can be traced back to some of these original Jerseys in the pedigree. Sadly, Znigniew (George) and Cathe are no longer with us to celebrate, but our family are forever thankful for their hard work and foresight.

Our Cattle Club Story

Since the very beginning the Mt Compass Jersey Cattle Club have been a wonderful support to the family. The club celebrates over 50 years, along with an annual Heifer Competition, with Krystyna’s daughter Rebekah assisting as the club’s secretary. With three generations of our family having served the committee holding executive positions – including Patron, Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Secretary. Many friendships with dairy farmers and industry colleagues have been made through the years, and it is wonderful to reflect and be thankful for the bounties given and received. Our story would not be told without our great love for our Jersey breed, and the big part the Mt Compass Jersey Cattle Club members have played in our history.
